Expatriation and repatriation

Transition Therapy

Being a global nomad comes with joy and challenges. One of the largest challenges is settling into a new host country, another is waiting for your posting to be defined and announced, and the third is repatriation. Common for all is that you quickly have to adapt to a new setting.

The common traits of expats are high cultural sensitivity and an excessive ability to adapt to new subcultures and cultures, but the process can at times be stressful and overwhelming. You can feel depressed when returning to your home country, stressed when moving, lost when waiting for a new posting and you might experience more explosive behavior or you retreat and isolate yourself from others because you are just trying to cope with being in transition or the new life circumstances.

Contact me for support in the transition phase.

International Family Therapy

The expatriate lifestyle comes with a lot of fortune and interesting challenges. One of the challenges can be that one is working and often traveling and the other is in charge of the family and household. Both sides can at times feel lonely as they might not always have a common standing point and framework while being expatriated.

Domestic abuse such as sexual, economical, physical, and emotional abuse are some of the common issues that you meet among expatriate couples who live in a perfect world from the outside observer. But from the inside, you might feel shameful and silent, because you feel embarrassed that you cannot make a family function when you are a highly qualified professional.

How to raise children is a cause of discussion among many expatriate families.

Stress, burnout, and substance abuse also play a large part in expatriates’ family dynamics.

If you are in need of help to build a bridge between your different beliefs and understandings contact me.
